Any surface that is oriented towards the hub of the ship is felt as "floor", surfaces radially oriented to the hub would feel like "walls", surfaces oriented away from the hub would be "ceilings." I'm almost convinced film critics are paid off...I thoroughly enjoyed this movie more than most of the "critically acclaimed" films I've watched this year. 776 out of 1,100 found this helpful. The trailers made this out as serious science fiction, but it was basically a glorified "boy meets girl" movie in space. 550 out of 863 found this helpful. Find out about all the goofs from Passengers (2016) on IMDb.

When the power to the propellant is cut the rotation stops and gravity is lost. Passengers is just as bad as the new Total Recall when it comes to taking a science fiction idea and completely ruining it with implausible physics. It was great to see a story like this one told in a way that didn't spend most of its time trying to dialogue it's way into Oscar nominations. Well let me tell you this film was none of those. At the same time, I know that Morten Tyldum is an incredibly good director. I read many of the reviews too, and while I always say that every movie will treat everyone in a different way, I am a little surprised by the amount of people who didn't enjoy it! Imagine that going wrong and the pod isn't able to keep the cells in check. Was this review helpful?

The only way to become weightless would be to cancel the sideways motion imparted by the rotation of the ship.

Amazing film. If you are going to venture out to see a movie for the Holidays go see this one! I was however surprised to see that user reviews contradicted what critics had to say. But anyway, I recommend this and hope to see similar movies in the future. When the passengers go spacewalking, the instant they walk out the airlock, they have to be secured by magnetic boots. There is no alarm system on a huge space ship ?

Such a design for a starship doesn't make sense as the entire structure could be put in a continuous motion, as is indeed done with many probes today without requiring the continuous addition of power. It keeps them in cryogenic stasis. Heimdall and Loki meet a brutal end, Hulk gets sent to Earth, and Thor is left to suffer amidst his fallen comrades before the ship explodes. Passengers: PLOT HOLE - So I just watched about half of the movie Passengers (with Chris Pratt). My car has a better information collecting system from various sensors than that space ship, you actually DON'T need to plug-in floppy-disks around your car to collect data, they kind of get collected automatically and displayed on the screen. Basically the people inside the pods are kept dead, but the pod manages to halt any deterioration of the cells. Was this review helpful? It's not a spoiler to say that in the first minutes of the film we get a bird's eye view of the ship colliding head on with an asteroid swarm. The gallery is limited.

It's always a good sign.

Lastly, the visuals is BREATHTAKING (I absolutely adore the ship design).

Don't ask why this incredibly complicated ship couldn't/didn't attempt any evasive maneuvers. Like I said, nothing more than an excuse to have studly guy and sexy girl on screen and cash some cheques while they were at it.

The movie is plausible. 61 out of 97 found this helpful. But no: every little technical/scientific/engineering detail is completely illogical, and the methods deployed by the main character to solve the situations are absurd. This movie had everything- love, drama, philosophical/existential questions, and incredibly suspenseful moments (and not just action scenes!!). That of course includes the ledge in front of the airlock. This is fictional, future technology and we have no idea how it works, but I think its safe to assume that the pod has to keep the entire body in check during cryosleep, and if the pod malfunctions it could cause all kinds of problems, both directly and later on. You wouldn't accelerate away from the ship like you would in a real gravity field, but you would float away with a speed equal to the acceleration simulated by the artificial gravity.

The Avalon generates its gravity by rotating, which is made evident by the fact that the elevators connecting the three helical pods are without gravity. Was this review helpful?

There is absolutely no method to alert the large sleeping crew of a huge ship that something went wrong ?! In any case the ship's automated systems are only partially successful in dealing with it, the sequence of events ending with one of the passengers being awakened prematurely from his hibernation pod. Was this review helpful? This movie is visually stunning & the story telling is not only thought provoking but innovative while doing so! If you go to see a movie to figure out how you could make a better movie, or need something exploding the entire time you will need to see something else.

The ship would not have reached Arcturus in the time allotted. The voice of the Auto-Doc is the writer of the film, Jon Spaihts.Because the ship had been malfunctioning due to collision with the asteroid it had effected
It is supposed to be a pure-blood SF story, whose main character is a mechanical engineer.

That is the conclusion you must reach after watching this movie. Professional film critics are stupid.

The best part is to find out yourself. Passengers is yet another example as to why you should go see the movies professional critics hate & save your money on the ones they absolutely love. Going to see a movie at the theater is like $30 now for just 2 people & that's without visiting concessions. I would have said "children". Maybe his pod wasn't working right for 2 years, so slowly damaging his body?
