Elina is also told that in order to face the extremely strong currents of the Depths, she must give up her wings in exchange for a tail; despite her reluctance, Elina is given a pearl necklace that will turn blue when she chooses to become a mermaid, the pearls will slowly turn back white whereupon Elina will need to go back on land to regain her wings, if not, she will be a mermaid permanently.

Directed by Conrad Helten, the film is the 12th entry in the Barbie (film series) and the 4th installment of the Barbie: Fairytopia series, but is not a canon sequel to the previous films.

Meanwhile, Nalu is guarded by two Fungi while Max searches for and finds the Immunity Berry. In truth, Topaz really has been kidnapped by Laverna, evil twin sister of Fairytopia's benevolent ruler, the Enchantress. Elina finds the guardians and her friends, captured by the Fungi. The guardians' powers overwhelm Laverna and she vanishes. Elina rescues Nori and together they reach the bottom of the depths. The group arrives at Laverna's lair, planning to go in and find the union point, but Elina insists on going by herself as she has Azura's necklace. Elina and Nori race to the fairy ferry, run by a giant sea-snail named Shellie. Back in the Magic Meadow, the fairies and the flowers are cured. Unlike all other fairies, Elina does not have wings, which she is often ridiculed for. Laverna agrees to let them go if Elina returns Azura's necklace, which she refuses, whereupon Laverna notices the rainbow in her eye. However, Elina is not strong enough to face the currents and Nori presses on alone. The group manage to snag the berry out of Max's hand as the Fungi chase them underwater. Elina eats it and is transformed back into a fairy with a new pair of wings. Delphine tells them that to find Nalu, they must brave the Depths of Despair and seek out the Mirror of the Mist. Just as the Elina is about to return the necklace, Azura's words reach her and she snaps out of her trance. When the group finally reach Dahlia’s home, she is reluctant to help as the other guardians were mistrustful of her but Elina convinces her to do the right thing. While her friends cause a distraction, Elina makes it inside. When they reach where Nalu is, Bibble distracts the Fungi while Nori and Elina free the prince. Elina hears Nori's cries for help and exchanges her wings for a tail, becoming a mermaid. Dahlia tells Elina that, when she left, Laverna had created a device to suck the powers from the fairy guardians' necklaces and transfer them to herself, stating that the "union point" would be its weakness. Elina and her friends are visited by the recovered Enchantress. Laverna reveals that she poisoned her sister and plans to kidnap all of the fairy guardians, while her minions spread her secret formula all over Fairytopia, which will weaken all flying creatures. Elina sneaks to Azura's house, where she is discovered by Azura herself. Elina returns to her flower home, Peony, in disbelief. Elina and her friend Dandelion are warned that their guardian fairy, Topaz, has supposedly been kidnapped. Elina eventually figures out that Shellie is really Delphine. Despite receiving the berry, Max drops the vial anyway. He is Elina 's pet and sidekick. Further down, Nori is ensnared by one of the hostile plants growing along the cavern's walls. Elina returns home and is briefly visited by Azura, who congratulates her on a job well done. Nalu thanks them for saving Mermaidia and Fairytopia but Elina begins to lose heart at the thought of being a mermaid forever. When Max returns to Laverna and gives her the True-self Berry, she is transformed into a toad. Rejecting Laverna's offer, Elina hurls the necklace at the union point, shattering it. With the last pearl on her necklace beginning to turn white, Elina takes the berry and swims to the top of a waterfall where she is confronted by Max, who threatens to toss the entire vial of poison into the water unless Elina hands over the berry. The necklace magically bestows Elina with her own pair of wings.
