Once, thirty years or so ago, I watched a British movie with this book title.
The two stars I gave it were for the sets and wonderful scenes.
This is well worth your time to read if you enjoy an old fashioned mystery with bigger than life characters like Vanity fair. Finding the English climate utterly unbearable, Yates chose to live in the French Pyrenees for eighteen years, before moving on to Rhodesia where he died in 1960. As I have said before, I do enjoy reading this author, see other reviews.

After failing find an original copy of the book I finally downloaded the e version and enjoyed it, it explained Eve in the later Chandos books and while the plot was not well developed it was good fun After the first world war hegave up legal work in favour of writing, which had become his great passion, and completed somethirty books. You can still see all customer reviews for the product. These rangedfrom light- hearted farce to adventure thrillers. Does this book contain quality or formatting issues? The exotic villain(ess), the equally exotic chateau setting, a damsel to be rescued, and suave heroes who dash about at 60mph(!) It was great to read the actual story which has a few differences from the movie but for the most part they did stay true to the story in the movie.
