moraine lake trailhead oregon

Lots of dispersed camping with beautiful views all around! From the green lakes trail I completed this hike and ended up with a 7.95 length from the point I left my car to the point I returned to it. Totally doable; hiked it on 6/27 and had no problems with the snow or difficulty staying on trail. It was a nice hike and level of difficulty but not the most beautiful destination at the end. Even with snow and ice, no areas were so steep we were slipping. Moraine Lake is one of the easiest accessible and most beautiful high mountain lakes in the Three Sisters area. Going through the woods.

The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching.Excellent trail. Better bring your bug spray the Mosquitoes will try and pack u off lol. We tried to be Trail Blazers and follow gps for the trail as it was still all snowed in. Beautiful lake to strip down to undies and cool off. Beautiful trail that follows s the creek until it splits off towards Moreau’s lake. The snow had melted and there were lots of beautiful wildflowers and abundance of butterflies (so many in the meadows that I had to watch my step so I didn’t step in them as I walked). Hiking poles would be a good idea if you are a little out of shape or worried about slipping.Hiked on Monday, July 29th and it was absolutely stunning. Didn’t get to see the lake either... Hit steady snow about half a mile in and would have been able to push on had it not started to rain and hail on me. As others have noted, it is heavily trafficked for the first two miles, then we didn’t see anyone until the end of the trail. Gradual incline, easy hiking.

It was hot and a steady climb up. Lots of hungry mosquitos. went on a sunday, no issue parking at devils lake parking lot (they take card which is nice). Would highly recommend snow shoes/ crampons.Awesome trail. But the trail is mostly clear all the way up, This is a great trail. Like many alpine lakes, Moraine Lake stays frozen for several months a year. At this time, there were no bugs and the trail was relatively clear (save for the snow!). Lake still mostly frozen but still beautiful.Tried to hike on June 20th. I started from the green lakes trail head. We'd love to go back and try again once the snow is cleared!DO NOT TRY TO HIKE THIS TIL MID TO LATE JULY!!! It did remind me of being in Colorado Flatirons with tons of people on the trail but that’s life today. The trail head is shared with green lakes trail and half way the trail to Morraine lake splits. Great trail.

Not too deep and you can see all the way to the bottom throughout the whole thing. While I was there a lightning storm started and that was my cue to make it down to a lower elevation. Great for dogs. Just small patches of snow. This was a very beautiful hike with very few people (and the few people I came across were wearing masks and practiced social distancing). It was a nice walk to get down there and added about two miles more to the trip. This was a great trail for a quick day hike that I feel anyone could do.Awesome trail! This is a different starting point than shown on the map above. Use caution (and your hands) on the first, rugged 100-foot section of this path. Obviously poor timing but still beautiful. All in all it was a beautiful day and I enjoyed how few people were there so I could feel alone in the woods and focus on soaking in the sights and sounds of the forest. All around great hike - good little workout, great forest setting, wonderful views and beautiful swimmable lake at the end. The hike to the lake is definitely a workout, especially with overnight gear, but worth it. To complete the Moraine Lake loop, hike to the far side of the lake and follow the trail up the ridge to the right. Great hike, well worth it. One of my favorite summertime hikes with a cool, rewarding dip at the lake.Hiked Oct 1. Gorgeous and the sound of waterfalls so relaxing. Stick to the right as this is the Green Lakes Trail. Marvel and awe at the true power of Mother Nature. There's not many breaks. The first part through the woods has lots of mosquitoes so bring bug spray. We went to the Green Lake trailhead and split off onto the Moraine trail 2 miles in. The climbers' trail back to Devils Lake is 0.8 mile beyond. Devils Lake/South Sister Trailhead Dogs need to be on-leash in Three Sisters Wilderness on: Green Lakes, Moraine Lakes, South Sister, Soda Creek, Todd Lake and … Totally worth it. The mosquitos were out in droves and didn’t seem to mind my bug repellent. Help keep our trails and parks open during COVID-19 by committing to social distancing. A lot of snow still but well-marked with sticks in the snow. Its highly trafficked but once you split off its virtually no one.
